Cozy at home

Here comes Sandy!

So much has happened since settlement day!  Our move went off without a hitch!  We used Steedle Moving and they did an excellent job.  They packed the truck from Newfield in a little over two hours!  Amazing!  The move in took longer because we had to direct where everything was going.  We were saying "the shed" or "the front bedroom" more than I would have liked!  Come to find our attic does not have any plywood flooring, so we need to get that taken care of.  So, not only is all my yarn, spinning wheel, etc., in the front bedroom but everything that was delegated to go to the attic.  90% of which is stuff being held for sentimental reasons for us and our families.  I am all for not easy to reach storage space.  Makes you think twice before you put it there.  In our old house in Wenonah we had had a walk up attic and it was just too easy to run it up the stairs and dump it.  Oh how I loved our house on Monroe Ave.

BUT I LOVE THIS HOUSE for all new reasons!  This is Dan and my house!  We have been here two weeks and still can't believe it is ours!

I had my "female" surgery a week ago and man! it took a lot of of me (figuratively and literally!)...  I have had excellent care from my spouse-to-be.  Truly inspirational.  It will be a tough act to follow.  My ex was a real _______ (fill in the blank) when he was ill.  Made me want to put the pillow over his head rather than under!
I have tons of love, food, company and support from family and friends.  It has been a humbling experience. I feel much loved.

Today we are sitting tight for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy which is headed straight towards us in NJ.  I dread these storms, especially since I am no longer at the Newfield house (yet still a homeowner)... and we have been hit hard before during storms due to the heavily wooded area which we lived.  It was not uncommon to lose power at the house 10 times a year.  The worst was last Summer when Hurricane Irene put us out of power for nearly 5 days in early AUGUST!  Talk about miserable!  I lost all of my food in both fridge/freezers and we split up the family (Katie and Hannah, their dog and cat), me and my three dogs across the land.  Fortunately, we were spared any damage but other houses on my street were not so lucky. I am saying an extra prayer for those that have already sustained serious damage (physical and emotional) that they especially be spared.  I also pray that my house is unharmed since I can't drive for a few more days and I seriously doubt Dan would even allow me to go there by myself not knowing what I may find.  I haven't been back since the 21st. Poor Newfield House!  Hope we find you a new family for you soon to play in your great back yard, hang out in the cozy family room and enjoy one of the loveliest streets I have ever lived on.

Stay well and safe...

Settlement Day!

Settlement went off without a hitch (but with lots of $$).  Dan went to the house and I went to work.  He is waiting for Verizon to show up and install our Internet and cable.  My sister and Mom spent the better part of the day putting in shelf paper in the kitchen cabinets.  What a HUGE help having that task done for me was!!!

Our brand new king size bed got delivered today, too!  We can all fit - the me, Dan, the doggies and even a grand kid or two.

Katie took the baby to the doctor for a check up. Hannah has been a bit under the weather.  I think she is cutting her canine teeth and resulting lower resistance.  She has been really attached to me lately which is ironic and heartbreaking since she and Katie are moving back to North Carolina to be with Emmanuel.  I wish them the best of luck, but the timing really stinks and now I am going to have an empty (well, it won't be completely empty because there is going to be all kinds of debris left behind) house to contend with.  I really wish it wasn't going to be empty over the Winter months.  I guess we will have to hustle to get it ready to put on the market.  I was counting on that bit of help I was going to receive as rent, but that isn't happening.  Brian's lease isn't up until the end of February.  It's going to be a very lean Winter.

I think I am going to sleep really well tonight.  Another huge hurdle achieved... onwards to the next one - surgery in two weeks and then we get married!!!

Our Week

A tumultuous weekend to say the least!  I am SO over packing!  I think I have bought all of Home Depot's small size packing boxes and have to go back today to get some more!

Tomorrow is settlement day.  I think we are ready more or less.  At least we are financially.  Tonight Dan goes over to the new house with the computer and all of the TVs etc. in prepartion for Verizon coming tomorrow.  This weekend he did a fine job installing our new mailbox.

I really don't have much to say.  Happy about the move but so sad about Katie and the baby leaving that it's like a wet blanket got dropped on everything.

Moving day is Friday!

Dan's first day of school... er, work

Dan got moved in this weekend with little trouble.  I am apparently well known for my packing skills and the movers kept thanking me for not making boxes weigh a million pounds.  I have lots of experience!  The small Home Depot box has been the most popular.  I do have one box in my office that has all of my file boxes in it and that one is going to be a b--- buster when they try to move it.  But out of an entire house, one box that is unreasonable?  That's what a dolly cart is for!  and I need to repaint my hallway and stairwell anyway.

My living and dining room are filled to the gills.  His old sofa is on my front portch (oh, you have no idea how I hate the connotation of inside furniture outside! lol)  We really don't have that long (fortuntately) to live this way.  I have to leave behind enough things that Katie can continue to function, but want to take full advantage of using the movers that I paid for!  She tells me that she is going to bring all her stuff from storage and put it in my garage this winter to go through (that causes me a LOT of anxiety!).  Take a look in my pantry closet and you will understand why!

Emmanuel came up for a long weekend to visit with Katie and Hannah which was really nice.  He looks well and I think they have really enjoyed their visit.

I think last night Dan was having some angst about making sure he caught the bus at the right location for his first day of communting.  He caught an express in Clayton right where the Acme is (so he can park and leave his car).  The express takes an hour and twenty minutes.  I guess he will get used to it and will get a lot of reading done!

I packed his lunch today (and mine) and sent him off to school work.  I hope he has a great day and the commute isn't too terrible!

One more week to settlement!

"Full House"

Today is a wonderful day because Emmanuel comes for a visit for a few days after his recent return from Afghanistan.  His NJ family is anxiously waiting to see him.  Hopefully, Hannah will be feeling more herself than she has been the last couple of days since she's been sick.  Poor Katie having to deal with a sick baby (and all that goes with it - sick and cranky child, lots of laundry, etc., etc).  I hope they have a nice reunion and Hannah is better too since Dan and I are babysitting Saturday night and Sunday while Katie and EM go to NYC for some alone time.  Would it such a cliche to remind Katie to make sure she uses B.C.?? She probably would roll her eyes at me.  Rolling of eyes better than #2...  How about getting married first?  How about get #1 baptized? (BTW:  this is a private blog, so only those invited and wish to comment may view and so far, Dan is the only one! lol).

Full House would also mean Dan moves in this weekend!  The big move is Saturday when all his stuff comes to my house to join my stuff, Katie's stuff, Hannah's stuff, and Brian's stuff.  We have lots of stuff and most of it isn't mine!

So this weekend we're going to be rather "cozy" 4 adults, 1 baby, 4 dogs and a cat!  Motel you say?  Not in the budget, but i have to say, it did cross my mind!  Oh, we'll be fine!  I am very resilient, :)

Last weekend I ran around vacuuming and dusting and K & D are shaking their heads asking "What's the point?"  The point is if we're going to all be jammed together, at least it's not going to be dirty!

Time is flying by quickly now. We will be in our new home sooner than later!!

Moving Dan's Apartment

-update from Dan
Sitting in my living room surrounded by boxes Monday night.  Christine came, saw and packed my apartment in under three hours.  For some reason I can't seem to find some of my favorite jeans and T-shirts.  I didn't check those big bags we dropped off at Goodwill....  Dinner tonight will be one of my favorites, micro-waved Weight Watchers Meat Flavored Lasagna.  Looked in the drawer for cutlery, guess I'll be using a sharpie and dry erase marker for utensils.
Moving guys are coming early on Saturday.   Looking forward to beginning our life together.
